Charles L. Cox, Ph.D.

Dr. Cox received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed a 2-year internship in clinical psychology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston and a 1-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital. After working for two area psychologists for about a year, he started a private practice in Houston in 1979. Dr. Cox has been licensed to practice psychology in the state of Texas by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists since 1979. He accepts clients into his practice whom he believes have the capacity to resolve their problems with his assistance.

Over the years, Dr. Cox has involved himself with bright, creative people in a variety of programs to stimulate learning and to provide a breadth of experience. In 1979, he helped start the Beechnut Psychological Practice in southwest Houst
on. He joined the Southampton Clinic near the Texas Medical Center in Houston in 1984, and he worked w ith this amazing group for 20 years. He moved his office full time to Sugar Land in 2004, and he opened Sugar Land Psychology in 2010.

For many years, Dr. Cox served as a consultant to special education programs in several area school districts. He was a consultant to an in-patient weight-loss program, and he consulted with an in-patient geriatric psychiatric program. For a number of years, he served as a consultant to a pain management program in the Texas Medical Center. He also served for several years as a clinical supervisor for a psychology intern training program.

He is a long-time member of the American Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association, the Houston Psychological Association, and the Fort Bend Psychological Association. He served as President-Elect of the Fort Bend Psychological Association in 2008 and as President in 2009. Dr. Cox has been a member of the Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology since 1979.

In his free time, Dr. Cox enjoys reading and trying to make a violin.
